Dedicated to the community of GPL drivers and editors.

We don't know any boredom concerning "our" F1 !

Poor spectators of the modern F1 . Cut of those wings Mr. Ecclestone , go back to 1967 !

So , it might be that You are a newcomer to GPL . Don't expect perfect engine-sounds with backfire or a full loaded character .
GPL was created by Papyrus in 1998 . They made an awesome job , but the cars sound works with only o n e file for the whole rpm range !!!
There is a program , created by "Maximum UK" that will solve this by splitting the carsound into idle, low and high rpm with loaded and
no-loaded engine-sound . But until now it works only for one cars sound . I croos my fingers for this tool , but I will also continue ,
because my files will be usefull for the finished GPLSO tool . Good luck , Maximum UK !

To recreate the amazing sound of seven totaly different engines in a realistic way , it needs much time
and patience . This work is half on it's way .

I collected hundreds of soundfiles for GPL in the Years 1998-2000 . Several good files improved the expierience
of GPL . But I noticed , that most of the sounds didn't fit the engines character even if they where good sounds .
My first attempt was to arrange 12 cylinder-sounds to 12 cylinder engines and the same for 8 and 16 cylinder cars ,
as they where part of the 67 season . I didn't edit any files ,but after this arrangement I had a very good
new feeling driving the vitually cars in Grand Prix Legends .
After I heard the first recordings from some cars of that season, I was unsatisfied again and tried to
match some files by 'learning and doing' . I'm no sound-engineer , so it was very difficult and needs many , many time to
get some results . But more and more I learned how to use my sound editing programs . Surely without getting perfect .

The second Soundset was released in 12/2002 and many GPL driver liked it . GP67_Sound_V0.2 was a mix of compiled soundfiles and
some first results of editing them by me .

Many thanks to the pioneers of GPL sounds :
Without being sure to remember each one atm. I have to give credits to :
Sam Doobie , Mark Watkins(SpeedEraser) , Doug Hardy , Ron 'Keeper'O'Dell , Derek Downie , ScottSteiner , Jochen Blum , .........

Version 0.3 was a half realistic Soundset . For example the BRM H16 had a nice sound , but it sounded more like the V16 from
1955 ( BRM MK2 1500cc supercharged ) because most of us (me too) thought this amazing record, available in the net, was the H16 of the 67 season .
You will have a fantasy sound of the BRM for this Demo . But , if You take place in the BRM cockpit and touch the trottle ,
You will hear a sound that could be from a real engine . Listen to the rhythm of the valves ! Don't drive too much on long
straights , because you will hear what I wasn't able to delete . Unfortunatly it has an ugly loop !

The problem of no good recordings I also had with the Lotus49 Ford Cosworth . No recognizable recordings of the 49 engine to render the sound !

But there was success with the Eagle . I found a great file on Sam Doobie's site with the Eagle Weslake recorded at Willow Springs .
My Eagle Sound V0.3 was quite realistic , and most of the GPL Drivers liked it very much , even with the bad loop . It was also part of
the V0.4 set and as it was the oldest sound of my sets it has to be made new.
It's not ready at all but I'm sure You will like it more than the former one .

In the summer of 2003 I joined the Oldtimer Grand Prix at the Nrburgring ( my "second home " ) . My goal was to record some of the engines
to get stuff for editing the V0.4 sounds .
The best result of it was the recording of a Ford Cosworth DFV engine from 1968 . I'm sure it sounds a bit sharper
than the 67 DFV , witch was the first edition of this most successfull engine of F1 history . The Cosworth of 67 had 400 HP and the 68
was tuned up to 480 HP .
I found out a technique to match my Lotus file in a way that it sounds very close to the 68 engine and those DFV's witch where build in later years.
But this file was never released in a soundset , because it has a very bad loop . Nevertheless some of my buddies are using this file with great fun ,even
if the V0.4 Lotus loops better . I tried to make a Lotus file with the character of this unreleased file and a better loop .
It was possible to create such a file , just at the time GPLEA released their Lotus V3.0 . Because I was so lucky with this new masterpiece
of car-graphic , I posted this sound as a tribute and big thanks to GPLEA . The most beautyfull Lotus should have the best sound !
In this Soundset V0.5 ,You will hear an evolution of this Lotus-sound with a bit more airbox resonances .

Another big step was the Murasama file , after I heared a recording of real good quality from the Goodwood meeting in 2003 .
John Surtees was driving the Honda RA300 as it was raced in 1967 by himself . I can only repeat what the commentator said :
"What an amazing sound ! "
I remembered that I used a file by Speederaser in my first compilation for the Eagle . Speed gave me his permission
and I changed it here and there to get the Honda RA300 character . Other authentic recordings showed me a little difference to
the sound that is heared in the Goodwood video . John Surtees might have given the explanation in an interview at Goodwood .
The injection pressure was much lower in those days of the sixties ! I changed the sound in a way that it fits both recordings
now .

(!)
You should hear an unregular firing engine in lower rpm . I'm working with this effect to create a more realistic
"Sound-feature" . For me it's exiting to hear some ignition interuptions. And if You accelarate coming out of a corner You
will notice this new effect of the Murasama's sound !

Thanks again Mark , as well as for another file, witch I edited for the Coventry in V0.2-Vo.4 . It was SpeedErasers Honda , again a wonderfull
work , that has a real V12 sound. I wondered that no one recognized the Maserati engine in this file .

I have no good recordings of the Brabham Repco BT24 engine . All recordings that I have are giving me different impressions of it's sound .
The file that I included in this set, will give the whole grid it's soundcharacter as it can be heared in the video "The Ringmasters" ,
a nice film of the 1967 race at the Nrburgring .
The Brabham engine had a strong torque , but "only" a peak capacity of 350 HP . Engines like that mostly have long airtubes with a small diameter
to give the engine full load of gas . This is o n e possible reason for the high torque and also for the high reving sound , even at "only"
8500 rpm , that is to be heared on some recording .

My favourite sound of all is the Ferrari 312 V12 from 66/67 . We have a recording of the Ferrari driven by Mike Parkes at Monza . This is
the most beautyfull F1 sound ever for me . The first one who was able to release a rendition of it was Doug Hardy . This file has to be part of
every serious soundset . You will have two Ferrari files in this V0.5 set . Dougs sound is loved by most of the GPLers and it is in a special folder.
Big thanks to Australia ( Hey , Doug ! Your 65 project seems to be finished , great what I've seen in RSC , but now there is no more excuse!
What's about our ....... ? ) !
The second one is my Ferrari rendition witch seems to work only on my system . I made it from an old file that someone , I don't know anymore,
used for F2/F3 engines(!?) and also for the Eagle , made in 1999. I worked "thousands" of hours with this wave . It has an ugly loop but me ,
the father , seems to be the only one who loves his baby ? And I do ! So , it's default in this set .

The GPL Community knows the problem of crackling sounds on some systems , so as XP/SB live with some special drivers .
If You have problems with the sound it's recommended to search the Race Sim Central GPL Forum . Most of the fixes are discussed there .
The quality of the soundfiles might not be satisfiing if You are using headphones . The best choise should be large size speakers with subwoover .

I'm proud to be part of the GPL-editors-community, because I'm very addicted to this magic Racingsimulation . I don't notice major differences to my
exiting feelings in real live Motorbikeracing , when I am sitting in my virtual cockpit while I'm waiting for the green flag .
As many of us I join a league ( SIMRACERS.de , "The home of Gentlemen racers" ) where we spend lots of thrilling hours on the racetracks of
the sixtees .

If You like my soundset You will try to step hard on the trottle , but be aware !
Those engines had much power and those tires didn't had any grip .

"The steering wheel is only for the case You made a mistake" .

Cornering , in those cars , means to balance it from the front to the tail or the other way around .
GPL is a question of patience ! If You find the answer, it will be addiction , be aware !

Keep on racing ,

Wolfgang .
