Google’s First Solar Purchase Deal in Asia to Powe

Being the top guzzlers of energy, more and more data centres are geared up towards harnessing commercial and residential solar as an opportunity to improve efficiency and reduce its environmental impact. Many big brands and businesses are adopting clean energy initiatives and renewable energy solutions in order to ensure a sustainable source of energy supply in the long run.

Google’s First Solar Purchase Deal in Asia to Power Data Centre

Recently, Google has also signed a long term agreement to buy the energy output of 10-megawatt solar array. The company’s first purchase of renewable energy in Asia, is a part of a large agricultural solar farm in Tainan city, Taiwan. The project will be located 62 miles south of Changhua County’s data centre and will be connected to the same regional power grid.

The Deal With Tennessee Valley Authority

Google has also announced that it will be buying electricity from 1.6 million solar panels to power two of its new data centres in US. As per the deal with Tennessee Valley Authority, it will cover 413MW of capacity which will be equivalent to 65000 home rooftop solar systems. Both the agricultural solar farms, located in Hollywood, Alabama and Yum Yum, Tennessee will be able to produce 150MW each.

Google mentioned that this cost-effective way to produce clean power will create economic benefits for Northern Alabama and Tennessee. They will hire hundreds of workers, make long term lease payments to property owners and produce millions in economic activity for the broader community. Google has 30 long term contract commitments to buy renewable energy, which has led to nearly $5 billion in investment, worldwide.

These days, more and more companies like Google, Facebook and Alphabet Inc. are rushing to secure cheap renewable energy for managing costs and reducing their carbon footprint through corporate power purchase agreements, which allows them to buy directly from energy generators.
